Friday Fitness Inspiration

For a lot of people, fitting a workout in can be tough, and finding the motivation to make it to the gym can be even tougher.  I have been experiencing this since moving back to Upstate NY from Manhattan.  In Manhattan, I had a gym in my building, so on a cold or rainy day, I could simply walk downstairs.  I also had roommates who attended fitness classes with me regularly.  I had many options.  Now there is no gym downstairs and the variety of great fitness classes is slim.  Below are a few workouts that have gotten me back into a routine and are easy for anyone to fit into their schedule.

1. Insanity
This is one of my favorite at home workouts as it requires NO equipment.  All you need to do is purchase the DVDs and you are set.  The DVDs are pretty pricey, but are definitely worth it and you can almost always find a friend who has them to borrow.  Another option is Amazon or Ebay (this is where I bought mine).  This is an intense workout and will leave you exhausted, but even if you are a beginner, trying your best to finish each time will build you endurance and eventually you will be a pro!  Safety is key so if you need to pause for a few seconds to perform moves properly, then you should do so.  To learn more about the program, visit: http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/insanity.do

2. Yogaglo.com
This has quickly become a new favorite of mine.  Some people may think that Yoga is not an intense work out, but some of the classes on this site will prove you totally wrong.  All you need is a Yoga mat and a computer (or tablet) and you can do most of the classes.  You can sort by Yoga type, length, target area, level and teacher.  This makes it extremely easy to find the perfect class to fit your needs.  This site has any type of Yoga class that you could possibly want.  The best part?  It is only $18 a month for unlimited access and they even give you a 15 day free trial to see how you like it!  You will definitely get your money's worth from their classes and you can get a great workout at home!

3. Spinning
One thing that I have missed since moving out of Manhattan is the great spin classes the city had to offer.  My favorite was Flywheel, which was a group cycling gym that choreographed your workout to music and had great teachers.  I have since realized that I don't need a high end gym in order to get a good cycling work out.  Most gyms have a decent amount of indoor bikes for you to use and you can find great guides to cycling routines online.  The following is a workout that can be done on a bike outside or on a stationary bike at the gym  http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/cardio/our-best-cardio-workouts/. Googling spinning routines turns up tons of results and you can easily find routines to fit your needs.

I hope I inspired you all to take the time to FIT fitness into your schedule.  Switching up your fitness routine is also key as your body will become accustom to a certain routine which allows you to use less effort than a new routine or workout would require.  Switching it up also keeps you from getting bored and is a way to try some new things!
